U Ngwe Gaing

Painter (1901–1967)

U Ngwe Gaing (1901–1967) was one of Myanmar's most respected painters of the 20th century. Born in Myeik and raised in Dawei, he developed his skills through self-study and later studied under several artists, including the renowned painter U Ba Nyan.

Working in both oil and watercolor, U Ngwe Gaing painted a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and portraits to everyday life and historical scenes. He was admired for his technical skill, attention to detail, and ability to capture the people and places of Myanmar.

His work had a lasting influence on generations of Myanmar artists and remains an important part of the country's artistic heritage.
